The US Government Accountability Office (GAO)report number GAO-10-389 entitled 'Defense Supplier Base: DOD Should Leverage Ongoing Initiatives in Developing Its Program to Mitigate Risk of Counterfeit. Parts' which was released on April 29, 2010 makes for interesting reading.
If proof were needed regarding the counterfeit component problem, this report cites many real examples where electronic counterfeit components have been caught in the Department of Defence supply chain.
